Frequently Asked Questions

The following are the most frequently asked questions by people considering Cedar Lane Senior Living  Community. If you don’t see your question here, please call us at (301) 475-8966.

Who can live at Cedar Lane?

Our community is specifically designated as a Senior Community for those 62 years old and over.  Additionally, those who are under 62 with a disability may live at Cedar Lane. However, due to contractual restrictions, only 10% of our population can be under 62 years of age. Our Community proudly follows all fair housing and equal housing standards.

What does "independent living" mean?

Cedar Lane provides clean, safe and affordable housing. The community does not provide care services to residents. That means Cedar Lane is ideal for seniors who are able to live on their own in an apartment, but who want the conveniences of living within a community that provides amenities, social activities, and optional fee-based services like housekeeping and laundry.

Is there a waitlist?

At this time, Cedar Lane is filling all apartment types and sizes through waitlists. Joining a waitlist is as easy as filling out our apartment application. When Cedar Lane receives a complete application, it is marked with the date and time and the applicant is entered onto the waitlists chosen. You are welcome to join the waitlists for any apartment that you qualify for and/or is in your budget.

What will my rent be?

How much rent is paid is determined by a number of factors.  Cedar Lane offers both subsidized and unsubsidized apartments.

In a subsidized apartment, the rent is subsidized by HUD Sect. 8 programs and the resident pays a rent that is based on their income. If you are moving into a subsidized apartment, your rent will be roughly 30% of your adjusted monthly income. All rental assistance programs require documentation, an inititial certification and re-certification each year.

In an unsubsidized apartment, your rent will be the posted rate at the time of your move-in.

How do I apply for an apartment at Cedar Lane Senior Community?

Cedar Lane’s apartment application is available by email, fax or in person at the Reception Desk.  You can also download an application from this website. Your complete application will be date/time stamped when it is received at Cedar Lane. All income and asset information needs to be reported on the application, regardless of if you are applying for rental assistance or not.  Your application will not be considered compete if items are missing.

Do you accept Housing Vouchers?

Cedar Lane Senior Living Community accepts Housing Choice Vouchers for the unsubsidized studio apartments.

Does Cedar Lane offer hospitality services?

In keeping with our primary purpose to serve lower and moderate income senior citizens and the disabled, we provide affordable, safe and clean housing with optional services such as housekeeping and laundry. For further support, you are welcome to employ any home care company you choose.
