I hope you have found these weekly updates helpful, as we try to make the best of a less-than-ideal situation. We still have no known cases of COVID-19 to report at Cedar Lane. As news about the pandemic slows, look for this community update to come out every other week, unless there is vital and timely information to share.
When can visitors and group activities return?
I know these are the questions on everyone’s mind. Back in March, we moved quickly to safeguard our community against the novel coronavirus. Now we are waiting alongside the Department of Aging and the region’s senior centers for the end of the state of emergency and the green light that our normal activities can resume safely. As soon as we hear anything regarding the easing of restrictions, we will share the news.
County Health Telehealth Resource Guide
The pandemic may be overwhelming for some and can cause strong feelings of fear, anxiety, sadness and uncertainty. Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations. The St. Mary’s County Department of Health has developed a resource guide to provide information on local tele-health support through phone or video during this pandemic. If you’re interested in receiving a copy of this guide, please call the front desk and ask for one of our service coordinators: Kirk Turner or Crystal King.
CDC issues eviction ban
On September 4, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued an order banning evictions for certain renters through December 31, 2020. The CDC is issuing the eviction moratorium to protect public health and prevent further spread of COVID-19. To be eligible for eviction protections under the order, residents must sign a declaration form and meet the requirements outlined in the order, which are also described in the declaration form. Remembering 9-11-2001
Our community honors the memories of those who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks nineteen years ago at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pa. Do you remember where you were that day?
Get ready for flu season.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our free, door-to-door flu shot clinic. Between residents and staff members, 118 Cedar Lane community members are now immunized against the influenza virus, and CVS representatives will return next week to administer vaccines to a few residents we missed. You can further prepare for flu season by stocking up on tissues, hand sanitizer, hand soap and paper towels. Take a look at your medicine cabinet too. Replace anything that has expired and make sure you have pain relievers, decongestants, fever reducers, cough syrup and antihistamines. Test your thermometer batteries and clean your humidifier.

Have you ever considered putting your ideas and experience to work helping the community? The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County are looking for citizens just like you to serve on the following volunteer boards. 2020 Storms
Have you heard that the number of 2020 storms are expected to exceed the designated name list? This has only happened once before, in 2005, which had 28 named storms. Hurricane specialists will begin using letters from the Greek alphabet to name storms!
The First Big Raffle Drawing is Next Friday!
We have sold 126 tickets to date and we know several of you are in it to win it! The first cash drawing will take place on Friday, September 18 with a $100 prize. Each Friday, the cash prize grows larger and larger until we get to the $10,000 grand prize drawing on October 23. Good luck to everyone who bought a ticket. Furry Friends
I recently learned that September is Happy Cat Month and National Service Dog Month. So join me in giving a shout out to the fabulous felines and super service dogs who reside within our community, and the residents who love and depend on them.
